hopefully be returning on Christmas Eve to
visit the well behaved children of Westville

friends were treated to a balloon man and
Elmo also paid a visit, the children and
family had a great time and can’t wait for

Roller Hockey |
December 6th -
With the hockey season in full swing, the
members from Westville FD laced up and set
out for the 2nd year to a dual on the rink.
With a little help from the mutual aid
companies (National Park, Gibbstown, &
Mantua) we were able to fill 2 teams worth
of players. Teams were picked and placed
with, Captains Kleinfelder and Tucker. The
opening period looked to be a land slide as
Kleinfelder and his crew went up by 7 goals.
But, after facing a flurry of shots,
Goaltender Baker started to tire, and
Tuckers boys equaled up the score. The teams
would go back and forth scoring numerous
times on each other. After a long hard
fought game, All Star floor man Devin
Walton, only because he spent more time on
the floor than his skates, muffed a break
away as time was running out. In the end
Kleinfelders crew took home the victory. A
good time was had by all, and everyone is
looking forward for the next game.

Westville EMT'S Honored at New Jersey State EMS
Conference in Atlantic City |
|
October 4th
-
Nomination Submitted:
On February 8th
2008 at 1318 Hours, Westville Fire Department's
BLS Unit 739, was dispatched to 101 Birch Ave,
Parkview School, Westville New Jersey for
choking. On arrival of 739 (EMT's Farley and
Tucker) found the school nurse (Susan Myers) in
care of an 11 year old female in respiratory
arrest. The patient had eaten a piece of pizza,
when it suddenly became lodged in her throat
obstructing her airway. With her airway
obstructed and unable to be cleared, the patient
became cyanotic and respirations ceased. The BLS
Crew cleared, suctioned and secured the patients
airway. Ventilations were then delivered via a
bag value mask. The Patient was immediately
removed to the BLS Unit so care was not delayed.
Once in the BLS Unit, care was continued for
the patient with ventilations still being
delivered via Bag value mask. Without hesitation
the crew went en route to Underwood Memorial
Hospital in Woodbury, New Jersey without the
assistance of an Advance Life Support Unit.
Waiting for the ALS Crew to arrive on scene
would have delayed patient care. The BLS Unit
had the patient to the hospital and receiving
care within 12 minutes of the initial dispatch.
Thanks to the quick actions of Ms. Myers, Mr.
Farley, Mr. Tucker and the staff at Underwood
Memorial Hospital, Emergency Department, an 11
year old little girl has returned to school and
been given a chance to enjoy all life has to
offer. Ms. Susan Myers, Mr. Eric Farley, and
Mr. James Tucker should be recognized for their
outstanding pre-hospital efforts and actions
performed on that day. With years of experience
and continuous training these three individuals
show a vigorous commitment to the community of
Westville.
As Announced at the Dinner:
On February 8, 2008, a BLS unit was dispatched
to a school for a choking victim. The school
nurse recognizing the compromised airway
activated the 9-1-1 system. Upon arrival at the
school the BLS crew found an 11 year old girl,
cyanotic and in respiratory arrest secondary to
an obstructed airway. The BLS Unit immediately
removed the foreign body, suctioned and secured
the airway. Since the young girl still needed
respiratory assistance she was taken to the
ambulance where treatment continued. Without
any hesitation, while assisting in ventilations,
the girl was immediately transported to the
nearby emergency department.
From the initial dispatch to arrival at the
hospital only 12 minutes elapsed. Today this
young girl has returned to school and is
enjoying all that life has to offer. For their
quick thinking and their outstanding
pre-hospital efforts we commend the Westville
Fire Department EMTs Eric Farley and James
Tucker along with Parkview School Nurse Susan
Myers and award them the 2008 Outstanding
EMS Call Award.
The Board of Fire
Commissioners, Officers and Members of the
Westville Fire Department would like to
congratulate Jim Tucker, Eric Farley and Susan
Myers for a job well done.
